Australia, Serbia at 0-0 at halftime
NELSPRUIT, South Africa — Serbia is dominating play but is 0-0 with Australia at halftime of their Group D match at the World Cup on Wednesday.
Australia was thankful to goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer on several occasions, while Serbia lacked a finishing touch in front of the net.
Milos Krasic had the ball in Australia’s net at 38 minutes, but was ruled offside. Krasic wasted a one-on-one chance with Schwarzer earlier, while Branislav Ivanovic and Nikola Zigic also missed chances.
Australia needs to win and have the result of the other group D match between Germany and Ghana go its way. Serbia might progress with a draw, but can’t afford to lose.
