CHICAGO (GaeaTimes.com)- In what comes as a surprise to many Chicago Blackhawks fans, Dustin Byfuglien has been traded to Atlanta Thrashers by the Stanley Cup 2010 Champions. Dustin Byfuglien was one of the key players for the Chicago Blackhawks in the Stanley Cup Finals with a total of 16 points that had 11 goals and 5 assists. The news has been revealed by a source close to the team on conditions of anonymity because the trade has not been approved yet by the NHL. The other players who have also been sent to the Atlanta Thrashers include Ben Eager and Brent Sopel.
The move by the Chicago Blackhawks is however quite expected according to some players because of the huge contracts needed for the stars like Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews. TheChicago Blackhawks will also receive first and second round picks in the upcoming drafts as well as forward Marty Reasoner and prospect Jeremy Morin. Some fans however will find the transfer of Dustin Byfuglien sad because of his performance in the Stanley Cup. He was not only a goal scorer for the team but also very crucial in the defense. He helped in blocking the vision of the goalkeeper with his large frame.
As the news of the Blackhawks trading spread Brent Sopel tweeted his thanks to everyone for the wishes and said that so far the trading is only a rumor and he is not aware of any formal announcement. Brent Sopel and Ben Eager were also important in the Chicago Blackhawks defense with their physical style of play. The trade will help the Chicago Blackhawks to clear their salary cap space and also benefit the Atlanta Thrashers by adding experience to their side.
