Netherlands leads Cameroon 1-0 in second half
CAPE TOWN, South Africa — Striker Robin van Persie’s first-half goal remains the difference as the Netherlands leads Cameroon 1-0 in the 60th minute of their Group E World Cup match.
Van Persie played a neat one-two with Rafael van der Vaart in the 36th minute, and then shot through the legs of goalkeeper Hamidou Souleymanou from a tight angle.
Van Persie had another chance early in the second half, but his right-footed shot from 20 yards was saved.
Neither team has played with urgency because the match means little. Netherlands already has qualified for the second round, while Cameroon is already out.
Netherlands winger Arjen Robben was still on the bench after 60 minutes. He has yet to play in the World Cup because of a left hamstring injury.
