Spain leads Chile 1-0 after 30 minutes
PRETORIA, South Africa — A goal by David Villa has given Spain a 1-0 lead over Chile after 30 minutes in their final Group H match at the World Cup.
Villa put a long-range shot into the Chile goal after he recovered an attempt outside the penalty area by Chile goalkeeper Claudio Bravo to clear a shot by Fernando Torres.
Torres also had a header sail over the crossbar in the fourth minute and saw another effort deflected out to a corner after a defensive lapse by Chile at Loftus Versfeld Stadium.
For Chile, a shot by Alexis Sanchez in the 14th minute was pushed behind the backline by Spain goalkeeper Iker Casillas.
Chile has six points and needs only a draw to win the group, while Spain needs a victory to guarantee advancement to the round of 16.
