Spain leads 10-man Chile 2-1 after 75 minutes
PRETORIA, South Africa — Spain is hanging on to a 2-1 lead over 10-man Chile after 75 minutes of their final Group H match at the World Cup.
David Villa and Andres Iniesta gave Spain a 2-0 lead at halftime.
In the 24th minute, Villa put a shot from 45 yards into the wide-open Chile goal, while Iniesta’s goal came in the 37th after a pass from Villa. Chile’s Marco Estrada was then sent off with a second yellow card.
Rodrigo Millar scored for Chile in the 47th minute, his shot from near the top of the penalty area deflecting off the knee of defender Gerard Pique and over helpless Spain goalkeeper Iker Casillas.
Chile needs only a draw to win the group, while Spain needs a victory to guarantee advancement to the round of 16.
