Spain leads Chile 2-0 at halftime
PRETORIA, South Africa — Goals by David Villa and Andres Iniesta have given Spain a 2-0 lead over Chile at halftime of their final Group H match at the World Cup.
In the 27th minute, Villa put a shot from 40 yards into the wide-open Chile goal after he recovered a clearance outside the penalty area by Chile goalkeeper Claudio Bravo, who had rushed out to deny Fernando Torres.
Iniesta’s goal from the top of the penalty area came in the 37th minute after a pass from Villa at Loftus Versfeld Stadium, just before Chile’s Marco Estrada was sent off with two yellow cards.
Chile has six points and needs only a draw to win the group, while Spain needs a victory to guarantee advancement to the round of 16.
