Nick Faldo: Monty snubbing me

MUNICH — Former Europe captain Nick Faldo believes he is being ignored by successor Colin Montgomerie in the buildup to the Ryder Cup in October.

Faldo’s haul in winning 25 points in 11 Ryder Cups is a record. He was also Europe captain in defeat at Valhalla two years ago.

However, during three days spent in Munich with Montgomerie at the BMW International Open this week, there has been no dialogue between the pair.

Faldo said that his attempts to contact this year’s captain have drawn a blank.

“I didn’t want just to make my views known to him through the media,” said Faldo, who quit the German tournament on Friday after missing the cut.

“So I wrote to Monty three weeks ago suggesting we meet up for a chat, but I have not had a reply. I don’t think I need say any more than that. It says it all.”

Asked about talking to Faldo, Montgomerie said: “I think Nick missed out here so I don’t know what he is doing.”

Meanwhile, Montgomerie has revealed he has undergone a small blood transfusion in Germany in an attempt to speed up his recovery from a torn calf muscle which threatens his appearance in the British Open at St. Andrews next month.

A doctor has injected the muscle with blood from a young cow.

“Apparently, the protein in it is a great healer,” Montgomerie said. “So now I am not shouting ‘Fore!’ on the golf course anymore, I am shouting ‘Moo!’”
