Argentina leads 1-0 over Mexico after 30 minutes
JOHANNESBURG — Carlos Tevez has given Argentina a 1-0 lead over Mexico after 30 minutes of their second-round World Cup match.
Tevez headed into an empty net from close range in the 26th minute after Lionel Messi had chipped the ball toward goal. Replays showed the striker to be offside, setting off wild protests from the Mexican team.
Argentina dominated possession in midfield, but Mexico had the best early scoring chances. Carlos Salcido’s long-range effort in the eighth minute shook the crossbar, and Andres Guardado’s shot from outside the area went just wide of the left post a minute later.
The winner will play Germany in the quarterfinals.
