England, Germany at 0-0 after 15 minutes
BLOEMFONTEIN, South Africa — England and Germany are 0-0 after a slow first 15 minutes of their second-round match at the World Cup.
Both teams started tight at Free State Stadium, although three-time champion Germany had the better run of play.
The Germans’ best chance early came in the 5th minute, when Mesut Oezil ran onto a ball into the box from Bastian Schweinsteiger, but England keeper David James blocked Oezil’s shot with his leg.
England, which hasn’t beaten Germany at the World Cup since a 4-2 victory in the 1966 final, has yet to get a shot on goal.
The winner Sunday will face either Argentina or Mexico in the quarterfinals in Cape Town next Saturday.
