Germany leads England 1-0 after 30 minutes
BLOEMFONTEIN, South Africa — Miroslav Klose has scored to put Germany ahead 1-0 against England after 30 minutes of their World Cup second-round match.
Klose outmuscled defender Matt Upson to a bouncing ball off a goal kick and shot past England keeper David James in the 20th minute. It is the striker’s 50th international goal, and 12th in World Cups.
Germany’s Mesut Oezil had a good chance in the 5th minute when ran onto a ball into the box from Bastian Schweinsteiger. But James blocked Oezil’s shot with his leg.
England, which hasn’t beaten Germany at the World Cup since a 4-2 victory in the 1966 final, got its first shot on goal in the 25th.
