LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM (GaeaTimes.com)- The Marylebone Cricket Club will sponsor a cricket series for the first time in its 223 year history when Australia take on Pakistan in England. A spokesperson for MCC said that they are doing it because they are concerned about the health of test cricket and they are supporting Pakistani cricket at a time when their test cricket itinerary is suffering. Pakistan became a no-go area for other teams after the attack on the Sri Lankan players. The MCC team will take on the Pakistan team on Sunday as well in an All Star T-20 game where the likes of Saurav Ganguly and Brian Lara will be making a comeback to competitive cricket.
The former Indian skipper Saurav Ganguly who will head the MCC team against Pakistan said that Lords is a special ground for him. He will be joined by the likes of New Zealand’s former veteran Chris Harris and Sri Lanka’s former spearhead Chaminda Vaas, among many others. Pakistan will take on Australia in two 20-20 matches ahead of the series at Birmingham on July 5. The Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has said that they are looking forward to dominate the tournament and end Australia’s winning streak against them. Shahid Afridi pointed out that Australia have looked vulnerable against England in their on-going series. He also added that to win against them, his team will have to play like England and learn to finish the matches.
Pakistan was knocked in the T-20 World Cup in West Indies by Australia. Their match against the MCC on Sunday is part of the sponsorship agreement between the MCC and PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board).
