Brazil and Chile 0-0 after 30 minutes
JOHANNESBURG — Brazil’s Gilberto Silva had the best chance against Chile as the score is 0-0 after 30 minutes of their second-round match Monday in the World Cup.
The Brazilian midfielder shot from long distance in the 9th minute, forcing goalkeeper Claudio Bravo to push the ball to a corner. Kaka shot wide in the following sequence.
Brazil coach Dunga appealed for a penalty in the 27th when Lucio fell in bumping incident with Pablo Contreras, but the referee let the game continue.
Mauricio Isla attempted to stun Brazil with a low cross in the 4th minute, but keeper Julio Cesar stopped it before Chile’s attackers could reach it. Brazil counterattacked, with Luis Fabiano shooting wide of the far post from the right wing on a cold night at Ellis Park.
The winner will play the Netherlands in the quarterfinals.
