Brazil leads Chile 2-0 at halftime
JOHANNESBURG — Juan and Luis Fabiano have scored within 4 minutes to put Brazil up 2-0 against Chile after the first half of their second-round World Cup match Monday.
Juan headed in Maicon’s corner kick in the 34th minute. Goalkeeper Claudio Bravo stretched out his right hand but couldn’t reach the ball as it sailed into his upper right corner.
Luis Fabiano made it 2-0 in the 38th when he rounded the goalkeeper after picking up Kaka’s pass into the penalty area.
Neither team produced many chances until Juan broke the tie. Gilberto Silva had the best chance in the first half-hour when he forced a save from Bravo with a long-distance shot in the 8th minute. Kaka shot wide in the following sequence.
The winner will play the Netherlands in the quarterfinals.
