Germany destroys England’s World Cup dream

BLOEMFONTEIN - Germany on Sunday thrashed England 4-1 in the Round of 16 World Cup match in Bloemfontein to eliminate the Three Lions from the tournament.
England’s ‘worst ever World Cup defeat’ also dashed their hopes of beating Germany at the World Cup for the first time since the 1966 final.
One goal each from Miroslav Klose and Lukas Podolski reflected Germany’s domination in the first half, where the Three Lions could manage only a solitary goal from Matthew Upson.
A dreadful howler by the match officials overshadowed the first half, where they ruled that England midfielder Frank Lampard’s long-range shot had not crossed the line, The Sydney Morning Herald reports.
However, Joachim Loew’s men went on to make the game safe with two second half goals from Thomas Muller.
Germany will now play their quarterfinal match against winner of Argentina-Mexico Round of 16 match. (ANI)
