Jennifer Capriati Hospitalized For Overdose

TALLAHASSEE (GaeaTimes.com)- Former tennis star Jennifer Capriati has been hospitalized after a case of drug overdose according to reports. The former tennis player was rushed to a hospital in Florida after a call from a hotel in Riviera Beach. Her father has revealed that she is recovering from the incident.

Jennifer Capriati has a history of drug abuse that is often attributed to her early success. She found success as early as 14 and suffered from drug problems in her teenage years. The former World No.1 has also been arrested for marijuana possession in 1994 and became the poster child for burnt out sports prodigies. She was also involved in a shoplifting case in 1993. After being written off as a wasted talented Jennifer Capriati made one of the greatest comebacks in sports history to claim the WTA World No.1 title again. She defeated the highest ranked players in the world in the 2001 Australian Open with wins over the likes of Martina Hingis and Monica Seles at their peaks.

Jennifer Capriati has won 14 singles titles and one doubles. Her career however ended before time plagued by injuries. She has not yet announced retirement from the game. She is now34. In 2007 she had admitted to suffering from depression and suicidal feelings. She said it was after the end of her tennis career that everything crumbled for her. She added that she had no identity or life outside tennis. The WTA has taken cue from the problems faced by Jennifer Capriati and changed rules for the teenage players. They are now allowed to compete in a limited number of tournaments.
