Brazil leads Netherlands 1-0 after 15 minutes
PORT ELIZABETH, South Africa — Robinho’s 10th-minute goal on a clever pass from Felipe Melo has given Brazil a 1-0 lead over the Netherlands after 15 minutes of a World Cup quarterfinal.
The goal came 2 minutes after Robinho was ruled offside after putting the ball into the back of the Dutch net.
Two of the tournament favorites are playing under sunny skies and summer-like temperatures with the first expected capacity crowd of 42,286 at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
The Dutch, who originally made no changes, were forced to use a late replacement when center back Joris Mathijsen hurt his knee in the warmup, FIFA said. His place was taken by Andre Ooijer.
