PORT ELIZABETH - German coach Joachim Loew made five changes to the German squad for Saturday’s World Cup match for third place against Uruguay.

Four of the changes were health or injury related, except in the goal, where Loew called up veteran keeper Hans-Joerg Butt for his World Cup debut in the game at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth.

A flu bug knocked out skipper Philipp Lahm and forwards Lukas Podolski and Mario Gomez, while a back injury sidelined striker Miroslav Klose.

Hamburg defender Dennis Aogo, his teammate Marcell Jansen and striker Cacau were in the starting lineup. So is midfielder Thomas Mueller, who had to sit out the semifinal against Spain because of suspension.

Bayern Munich’s Bastian Schweinsteiger was named captain.

Uruguay coach Oscar Tabarez announced his squad Friday, recalling striker Luis Suarez and defender Jorge Fucile, who were both suspended for their last game.
