Swiss Wild Cat wins CTBA Stakes at Del Mar
DEL MAR, Calif. — Swiss Wild Cat outran stablemate Hi Ho Yodeler in the final sixteenth of a mile to win Friday’s $100,000 California Thoroughbred Breeders Association Stakes by a half-length at Del Mar.
Ridden by Christian Santiago Reyes, Swiss Wild Cat ran 5½ furlongs on the synthetic surface in 1:04.15 and paid $9.80, $4.80 and $2.80. It was Santiago Reyes’ first stakes win at the seaside track.
Hi Ho Yodeler returned $4.60 and $3.60, giving trainer Mike Harrington a 1-2 finish. Rockin Heather paid $6 to show in the race for California-bred 2-year-old fillies.
Swiss Wild Cat earned $60,000 for her second win in five career starts.
Cookinthisorthat and Vonn Nez were late scratches. Cookinthisorthat flipped in the gate, sustaining a minor laceration to a front leg. Vonn Nez was in an adjacent stall. Neither jockey was injured.
