Darryl Stingly Tribute Video Gets Viral over the Web

OAKLAND (GaeaTimes.com) — With the death of Jack Tatum, former Oakland Raider, a video clip showing the “freak accident” between him and Darryl Stingly in 1978, is spreading like wildfire over the net.

The hit video shows how Jack “The Assassin” gave a severe hit to Stingly on the field of a pre-season game. The hit resulted a massive paralysis to Darryl, forcing him to leave the football world prematurely. Though the hit was legal and no one would ever say that there was any malicious intent, Darryl never reconciled his bitterness towards Tatum for not visiting him following the hit. Unfortunately, neither they came face to face nor tried to resolve the issue. Looking through various reported quotes from the two men and their camps through the years, there always seemed a chasm of misunderstanding, or mistrust, or hard feelings going on between them.

But, when news came that Tatum was going to lose a part of his leg on 2003, Stingly commented,

Maybe the natural reaction is to think he got what was coming to him, but I don’t accept human nature as our real nature. Human nature teaches us to hate, God teaches us to love

Again, when Stingly died three years ago, Tatum released this statement,

Darryl will be forever remembered for his strength and courage. My heart and prayers go out to his family.

Too bad they could not say such things to one another face-to-face. They stayed distant men, but they are destined to be forever connected.
