Jaguars, top pick finally agree to 5-year deal

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Jaguars and first-round draft pick Tyson Alualu have finally agreed on a five-year contract worth $28 million, ending the defensive tackle’s brief holdout and getting him on his way to training camp.

The Monday news comes a little more than 12 hours after the Jaguars prematurely announced Alualu had agreed to terms.

Coach Jack Del Rio and general manager Gene Smith said following practice Sunday night that Alualu had accepted the offer. But the player’s agent, Kenneth Zuckerman, insisted it was not a done deal. Zuckerman says Alualu took a night to consider it before agreeing to the deal, which includes $17.5 million guaranteed.

Alualu, the 10th overall pick from California, is at home in Hawaii. He’s expected to arrive for training camp Tuesday.
