LONDON - Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov, who scored in the club’s first two competitive games this season, has promised to create “beautiful art” on the football pitch.

Berbatov had scored through a delicate lob in the Community Shield win over Chelsea, followed by a well-taken effort in United’s opening Premier League tie against Newcastle.

“Football is like art and my aim is to create beautiful things on the pitch to help the team be successful,” The Daily Express quoted Berbatov, as saying.

“Our aim is to win the title back and I know we have the players to do it. The manager has said it could be my season, but I want this to be our season.”

“We are all looking forward to the challenge. We want to win every competition we are in and it is important we entertain the fans as well. For me, that is what football is all about,” he added.

The 29-year-old further admitted that competition to be Wayne Rooney’s partner has stiffened following the arrival of Mexican striker Javier Hernandez, and the return from injury of Michael Owen and Federico Macheda.

“There is great competition for places in every game, which makes you more motivated to produce your best every day and show the boss you want to keep developing. That helps you improve as a player and ultimately helps the team,” Berbatov said.

“When you come to play with the best, you have to work hard to be on their level. And when you make that step, you start to grow up on and off the pitch.”

“Whenever you hear anyone say ‘Manchester United’ you immediately think of the biggest team in the world and when you have the chance to see what it is like on the inside, you feel very lucky to be part of it,” he added. (ANI)
