KARACHI - Former Pakistan wicket keeper Moin Khan has criticised the selectors and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ijaz Butt for ignoring experienced batsman Younis Khan for the upcoming five match one-day series against England.

Moin particularly slammed Butt for pandering to his ego to keep Younis out of the national squad.

“I am deeply disappointed with the treatment meted out to Younis by PCB chief Ijaz Butt and chief selector Mohsin Khan,” The Daily Times quoted Moin, as saying.

“Ijaz has made it a matter of ego denying Pakistan an opportunity to field strong team and increase Pakistan’s chances to win,” he added.

Moin, who played who played 69 Test and 245 ODIs for Pakistan, said Mohsin should resign from the post of chief selector if his voice is not heard by the PCB boss.

The former Test captain also questioned on what basis the selectors have ignored Younis when the indefinite ban imposed on him by the PCB has already been revoked by the appellate tribunal.

“PCB chief must not make Younis’ matter a personal issue and should make decisions in the interest of the country. When the PCB chief has forgiven other players, what stops him from pardoning Younis,” Moin said.

The selectors have announced a 16-man team for the series starting September 10, retaining veteran middle order batsman Mohammed Yousuf in the squad.

While controversial speedster Shoaib Akhtar succeeded in earning a recall, all rounder Shoaib Malik, who was left out of the Test squad earlier because of his awful form, was axed. (ANI)
