Gill asks players to make optimum use of available facilities to deliver the best

NEW DELHI - Union Sports Minister M S Gill on Sunday appealed to Indian players, participating in the upcoming Commonwealth Games, to fully utilise the infrastructure facilities given to them by the government and deliver their best.

He said that the government had done all that it could for the upcoming Commonwealth Games and that it was up to the players now to work hard and prove their mettle.

Gill also suggested that only passionate labour would bear the fruits of success for the players, and motivated them to remain focussed to achieve their dreams.

“The Government of India has left no stones unturned for the preparations of the Games. Now, it is up to the players to utilise our infrastructural and financial aid and give their best. They must work hard to prove their mettle at the event. They should remain focused towards their goal,” said M S Gill.

he Sports Minister also said that there would be no leniency in the dope test process during the Games.

“I have made one thing very clear to the players. I want medals of respect in these Games and nothing else. It is all right if you get fewer medals in sports or even none at all. But India should earn respect by all after the event. Every player must remember that there would be no leniency in the dope tests, and there would be immediate sampling and testing,” said Gill.

Gill, on the occasion of the hockey player Dhyan Chand’s 106th birth anniversary, paid floral tributes to the legendary player’s statue at the National Stadium, which was renamed as Major Dhyan Chand Stadium over six years ago.

The 2010 Commonwealth Games will be held from 3 to 14 October in Delhi. (ANI)
