Talented safety Karlos Williams is headed to FSU
DAVENPORT, Fla. — Karlos Williams was having a good time, chatting up teammates and opposing players between snaps of a 7-on-7 event at nearby Disney World. He was waiting for an opportunity to make a difference.
Suddenly, the 6-foot-2, 210-pound safety from Ridge Community High School was all business. He stepped in front of a pass thrown by Texas high school quarterback Michael Brewer and returned the interception 99 yards for a touchdown. He finished the play with a rolling tumble into the end zone.
“That’s the way Karlos can change a game,” said Ha’Sean Clinton-Dix, his longtime friend from Dr. Phillips High School in Orlando.
Williams is the type of athlete Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher is counting on to help the Seminoles back to prominence. With his size and 4.5 speed, Williams could bring an intimidating presence that has been missing from the FSU’s defensive backfield for nearly a decade.
“I want to make a difference,” said Williams, who is on The Associated Press South Region 25 list of top recruits. “I’ve been a fan of that school all my life, and I’m excited to be part of the new era of football there.”
As one of the best athletes on the field in high school, Williams has been asked to play several positions on both sides of the ball at Ridge Community. He had 102 tackles and three interceptions as a junior, while also playing wide receiver.
Williams committed to the Seminoles in February of his junior year. He’s plenty familiar with the program because his brother, Vincent, is a redshirt sophomore linebacker on the team.
“They are building a family atmosphere in Tallahassee,” Williams said. “I will have a brother at the school already, but I know every person on that team is going to be my brother. We all want to win for each other.”
