Focus turns to No. 1 Alabama for No. 19 Penn State

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — The game that Penn State fans have circled on their calendars for years is almost here.

After beating Youngstown State, the level of competition increases dramatically in Week 2 for the 19th-ranked Nittany Lions with a visit to No. 1 Alabama.

Penn State (1-0) goes from an overwhelming favorite in its 44-14 season-opening rout Saturday of the Penguins, to decided underdog for its trip to Tuscaloosa.

Freshman quarterback Rob Bolden made an impressive debut with 239 yards passing and two touchdowns, but coach Joe Paterno was noncommittal afterward about whether Bolden would start against the defending national champion Crimson Tide.

Most of the rest of the Nittany Lions say they’re glad they can finally focus on the marquee matchup against Alabama.
