Ellis hoping his 11th season with Jets is Super

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. — Shaun Ellis is excited more than usual heading into his 11th season with the New York Jets.

The 33-year-old defensive end thinks his team has a legitimate shot at making a Super Bowl run, something Ellis has dreamed about since being the 12th overall draft pick out of Tennessee in 2000.

He has outlasted three Jets head coaches and dozens of former teammates, and is also one of only nine first-round picks from his draft class still on an NFL roster.

The normally reserved Ellis tells The Associated Press his goal is to play 15 years and get 100 career sacks, marks he hopes to achieve with the Jets.

Coach Rex Ryan says Ellis’ name will be the first announced when the Jets are introduced before their season opener Monday night.
