Smith’s 5th touchdown pass lifts Winston-Salem State over North Carolina Central 34-27

Winston-Salem St. beats N.C. Central 34-27

DURHAM, N.C. — Kameron Smith threw his fifth touchdown pass of the game with 1:34 left Saturday as Winston-Salem State came back to beat North Carolina Central 34-27.

Tehvyn Brantley caught a 31-yarder from Smith to complete a comeback from a 27-20 deficit. Smith threw a 2-yard scoring pass to Tyrone Goldston to tie the game with 8:22 left.

North Carolina Central drove to the Rams’ 24 after Brantley’s touchdown, but Jared Mitchell’s interception at the 3 sealed the win.

Winston-Salem State (3-0) led 20-6 with 3:58 left in the third quarter. North Carolina Central (1-1) tied the game at 20-20 on Arthur Goforth’s 97-yard kickoff return and Tim Shankle’s 1-yard run.

North Carolina Central pulled ahead 27-20 on a 93-yard touchdown run by Tony McCord.

Smith finished 18 of 29 passing for 262 yards. Brantley and Goldston each had six receptions and two touchdown catches.
