OTTAWA - Six-time Olympian and triple Commonwealth Games medallist Susan Nattrass will lead Canada’s shooting squad for the Oct 3-14 Commonwealth Games.

The Shooting Federation of Canada announced the squad, which will compete in all the 36 events in Delhi.

A father-son combination Paul and Drew Shaw will make up the men’s trap and double trap teams at the Games.

Paul, 61, represented Canada at the 1996 Olympic Games and has won numerous international medals in a competitive career that has spanned over 20 years. His 23-year-old son Drewa is a newcomer in the national team and is looking forward to contending for both individual and pairs medals with his father.

In the women’s event, sisters Dorothy Ludwig and Lynda Hare are eying podium positions in the women’s air pistol. Dorothy won the pairs gold and individual silver at the 2002 Commonwealth Games and is looking forward to similar results with her sister in New Delhi.

“Having the opportunity to attend the recent air pistol competition in Ontario, I can well appreciate the unique demands of this sport and the incredible diversity within the various shooting events,” said Martha Deacon, Canada’s chef de mission.

“We look forward to our shooters performing at a very high level in Delhi and to be in the mix for several medals at the shooting range,” she added.

“The Commonwealth Games traditionally offer a friendly and very competitive environment for target shooters and the Delhi Games will be no different. Our athletes are very much looking forward to the event and anticipating strong performances in many of the 36 events that make up the shooting program,” said Susan Verdier, technical director of the Shooting Federation of Canada.

The shooting event is scheduled to take place Oct 5-13 at the Karni Singh Range and the CRPF campus in Kadarpur.
