LONDON - Wayne Rooney was left deserted by wife Coleen when she decided to visit famous French Shrine to pray for ailing sister instead of attending the striker’s important game against arch rivals Liverpool.

Wayne, 24, was desperate for his wife to be in the VIP area at Old Trafford as his team prepare to face arch-rivals Liverpool.

He hoped it would send a signal that she had forgiven him following his alleged 1,200-pound-a-time romps with a vice girl.

Instead, the mother of his 10-month-old son Kai and two of her relatives took a flight to the Catholic shrine where more than five million pilgrims a year pray for miracles. They will return tomorrow.

Coleen has been constantly at Rosie’s bedside in intensive care in Liverpool as her adopted sister battles the incurable crippling disease Rett Syndrome.

“She’s gone away, telling us she is getting her priorities right. Whether her timing would have been different had this scandal involving Wayne never happened, we honestly don’t know. The talk in the village is that he really wanted her to be at the Liverpool game because it means so much to him. He used to play for Everton, so there’s lots of hostility going on there,” the Daily Star quoted a friend of the couple as saying.

“But good on Coleen. She’s really shown herself to be her own person, not someone languishing around in Wayne’s shadow. Her little sister means so much to Coleen and anyone who knows her will verify that this mission of hope really is her priority.

“There is no way she would back down on something so emotive to her and her family just because Manchester United happened to be playing Liverpool,” the friend added. (ANI)
