Commonwealth Games village gets high-speed broadband network

NEW DELHI - Swedish telecom equipment giant Ericsson Tuesday said residents of the Commonwealth Games Village will get access to high-speed broadband connection, thanks to its fibre-optic cable network it has deployed there.
“Ericsson will be managing the network 24×7, supporting the communication needs of 8,000 dignitaries, athletes and team officials staying in the games village, spread over 63.5 hectares with 14 blocks, 34 towers, and 1,168 flats,” the company said in a statement.
The platform, built by Ericsson and Indian property management firm, Radius Infratel, will provide access to such services as high-speed data, 36 games specific channels in high-density format), video-on-demand and other advanced entertainment services.
“It will also enable data downloads at 100 Mbps and access to Wi-Fi in the village campus and the adjacent training centre,” the company added.
Some 8,000 participants and officials from 71 countries and territories are expected to attend the Oct 3-14 Commonwealth Games, the biggest sporting event in India after the 1982 Asian Games.
