Albany State (Ga.) defeats Savannah State 28-14
WAYCROSS, Ga. — LiRonnie Davis led a dominating rushing attack as Albany State (Ga.) jumped out to an early lead and held off a late push by Savannah State in a 28-14 victory Saturday.
The Division II Golden Rams (4-0) led 28-0 with 4:53 to go in the third quarter of the inaugural Rumble in the Swamp Classic.
Albany State outrushed the Tigers 291-78 with Davis, who finished with 90 yards, scoring first on a 37-yard romp. Kareem Hess added 76 yards, scoring on a 35-yard touchdown, and Robert Welton had 75 yards and a 3-yard touchdown.
Savannah State (0-4), which hadn’t faced the Golden Rams since 2004, got on the scoreboard with 1:29 left in the third quarter on a 6-yard touchdown pass from A.J. Defilippis to Dylan Cook.
Sheldon Barnes’ 5-yard run with 5:41 left made it 28-14. The Tigers regained the ball at their own 28 with 3:45 to go, but Albany State stopped them at the 10.
