Langurs At The CWG?

NEW DELHI, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- There are some things that can happen only in India and considering the huge drama that the country’s preparation for the CWG, things have gone from being ugly to the downright bizarre. The latest update from the nation’s capital tells us that the New Delhi Municipal Council is now deploying langurs in the premises to keep the monkeys off the venue. The move might come as a shock to some of the foreign units who have come for the prestigious games but the civic authorities have revealed that they are planning to bring in more langurs in the area to stop the menace of the monkeys.

An official said that the number of langurs deployed in the CWG area will be increased to 38 from 28. He said that the additional langurs will take care of the Games area as well as the other important areas. The authorities have made a special team that will try to control the wold monkey menace in the area and make rounds of the Games venue. The langurs who are bigger in size than the wild monkeys and more powerful will help the authorities in scaring them away.

In India, langurs have a special mythological significance as ‘Hanuman’, the hero who protected Ram, was a ‘vanara’, an ape like creature. In New Delhi, langurs have been used to civic authorities earlier to get rid of monkeys from important areas. The monkeys create nuisance in the area and are also known to be aggressive if provoked. With just 4 days left to go for the Commonwealth Games the preparations are in full swing by the authorities who have claimed that the games will be the greatest ever in spite of the huge controversies surrounding it.
