NEW DELHI - Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, arrived in Delhi Saturday afternoon for a three-day official visit, and immediately began a packed schedule of engagements.
On arrival, the royal couple was greeted by the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee chairman Suresh Kalmadi. Prince Charles will be declaring the Games open Sunday evening, jointly with the President Pratibha Patil.
The heir-apparent to the British throne took part in a trade and promotion reception at the British high commission, where he met with prominent Delhi-based businessmen.
Thereafter, he attended another reception to mark the golden jubilee of the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi. It had a personal connection as the foundation stone for the prestigious educational institution had been laid by his father, Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh.
At the reception, Charles met students and officials of IIT-Delhi and looked at old photographs of his visit to the institution thirty years ago.
Prince Charles will be calling on President Pratibha Patil in the evening.
