Reach venues early, CWG spectators told

NEW DELHI - Commonwealth Games spectators should use public transport as much as possible and reach the venues early on if they want to avoid serpentine queues, the government said Saturday.

An 18-point advisory on security measures also said that people should be prepared to be frisked thoroughly during the Oct 3-14 event. It also asked people to put up with inconvenience if queues get longer.

“The sooner you reach the venue, the quicker you will be able to reach your seat,” the home ministry advisory to ticket-holders said.

Flap barriers and radio frequency readers will ‘read’ the ticket and accreditation card at the entrance.

“If the reading shows the ticket or accreditation card as ‘invalid’, a second attempt will be made. If the second attempt too shows the ticket or accreditation card ‘invalid’, the person will not be admitted,” it said.

If the electronic readers fail for a few minutes, security personnel will do a thorough manual check.

It said only vehicles with authorised passes can go up to the designated points, where spectators should alight and walk the remaining distance.

Visitors who travel without the ‘vehicle access pass’ may use the Park and Ride or Park and Walk schemes.

These guidelines are in addition to the “Do’s and Dont’s” issued by the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee.

The ministry said “no relaxation and no exception will be made in any case”.

The Commonwealth Games are the biggest sporting event to be held in India since the 1982 Asian Games.
