NEW DELHI - Commonwealth Games Village officials Thursday denied media reports of used condoms clogging drains of accommodation towers.
According to some media reports, used condoms were discovered by plumbers when they were called in to clear the toilets after athletes complained about blockage.
\”There was no clogging in the drains at the Village and no plumber was called in. This is mere sensationalisation by media,\” a senior official of the Games Village told IANS.
However, a large condom vending machine has been installed at the Village, containing about 4,000 contraceptive packs.
According to informed sources, over half the number have already been used.
Meanwhile, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) said they are not in charge of the sanitation work inside the Village towers.
\”We are not dealing with the garbage inside the Games Village towers. The housekeeping department takes care of it,\” said MCD spokesperson Deep Mathur.
