DELHI, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- The ongoing CWG (Commonwealth Games) at the capital of India continue to run into trouble, be it for the shoddy accommodation or inadequate infrastructure. Reportedly a number of UK based and Australian swimmers have fallen sick after swimming in the pools with contaminated water. The development has left the organizers and the state government red faced. The Australian swimmers and their coaches have reportedly fallen ill. A number of English athletes are also unwell after swimming. Steve Moneghetti the chef de mission of Australia said that the pool used by the athletes had contaminated water that led to the fiasco. However, he admitted that the actual cause is yet to be found out.

He said that he wants his team to do well at the CWG and does not want to jump to a conclusion without solid evidence. The water quality in the pool has been tested and unless the reports indicate all is well, the Australia team would not use the pool, said the coach. Peter Harcourt the team doctor for the Australian team said that the illness may not be related to food as only the swimmers have been affected so far by stomach problems. Hayden Stoeckel and Andrew Lauterstein are among the swimmers who have fallen ill at the CWG. They have been sent to quarantine as per the norms.

Two high profile British swimmers Rebecca Adlington and Lucy Halsall have also fallen ill at the CWG as it has been reported. The swimmers are trying to brave the conditions. A UK based newspaper has blamed the unhygienic conditions at the village for the fiasco.
