Australia 95 for no loss at lunch in second Test

BANGALORE - Shane Watson and Simon Katich gave Australia a sound start as the visitors reached 95 for no loss at lunch on day one of the second cricket Test against India here Saturday.

Electing to bat under cloudy and windy conditions at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, the Aussie pair of right-hander Shane Watson (54 batting, 9×4) and southpaw Simon Katich (39 batting, 6×4) remained unseparated in the middle.

After a cautious start, the two openers started to find enough gaps in the field to score 60 in 14 overs in the first hour.

However, they slowed down thereafter and only 35 came in 13 overs in the second hour.

After pacers Zaheer Khan and S. Sreeesanth faied to make much of an impact, Indian skipper M.S. Dhoni employed spinners Harbahajan Singh and Pragyan Ojha to contain the two openers.

Earlier, Gujarat youngster Cheteshwar Pujara made Test debut when he was included in the 11-member India team in place of Mohali hero V.V.S. Laxman, who has been down with back spasm. Sreesanth replaced Ishant Sharma.

In the Australian line-up, Peter George was taken in place of seamer Doug Bollinger.
