CWG Wrestling: Indian men win two more gold

NEW DELHI - Yogeshwar Dutt and Narsingh Yadav muscled their way to fetch India two more gold from the wrestling arena at the Commonwealth Games at the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex here Saturday.

Responding triumphantly to a roaring crowd, Dutt defeated Canadian James Mancini 7-2

in the 60kg freestyle, while Yadav outclassed South African Brian Addinall 4-0 in 74kg.

“I am very happy today. I did a lot of hard work for this day. I did not face much difficulty in beating my South African opponent,” said Dutt.

“The crowd was huge. It makes you feel proud when you have so many people to back you.

It looks like the golden days of Indian wrestling are back.”

Dutt,27, who hails from Delhi, is a gold medallist in Asian Championships and Commonwealth Championships.

England grappler Sasha Madyarchyk won bronze after defeating Nigeria’s Amas Danial 6-5.

The second gold came from Yadav, who beat Addinall in a one-sided contest

“There was a lot of pressure. Playing before the home crowd is always difficult. I was thinking that if by any chance I made a mistake then it will disappoint my family, friends and relatives, who had especially come to Delhi to watch my matches, said Yadav.

“The environment here is thrilling and it is good to see this huge support, he said.

Evan Macdonald of Canada won bronze, defeating Pakistan wrestler Mohammed Ali 5-4.

However, in the 96 kg category, India’s Anil Mann disappointed as he lost to England’s Leon Gregory Rattigan in the qualifying round.

Nigerian wrestler Sinvie Boltic, who defeated Korey Jarvis of Canada, in a tough match, won gold. The bronze went to Rattigan, who defeated Pakistan’s Muhammad Umar 4-1.

Indian men has so far won six gold, one silver and one bronze in wrestling.
