AMRITSAR - Sports Minister M S Gill has criticized the media for portraying the XIXth Commonwealth Games negatively.

“People from all over the world who have come here to participate in the Games agree that India is doing good, as we have got medals in weightlifting, wrestling, as well as cycling,” said Gill.

“You can see yourself and the press can see all this then and why is the television media not saying anything about the stadiums? Why are they not praising the stadiums?” he asked.

Gill also appreciated India’s performance at the 2010 Games, as the country is second to only Australia in the gold medals tally.

“Our girls and boys are performing really well so far, I think, in three or four games like shooting, weightlifting, wrestling, in which India has always been doing well and has a good hold on the sports events. They have won medals in these games. In fact, the new thing that has taken place is that two boys have won medals in gymnastics,” said Gill.

“India stood a chance of winning the maximum number of medals in the Games,” he added. (ANI)
