No problem with water quality of pools, says Games chief Fennell

NEW DELHI - Commonwealth Games Federation President Michael Fennell said on Sunday that there was no problem with the water quality of the pools and they were monitoring it constantly.

Reportedly, few English athletes have been hit by diarrhoea.

Fennell said the federation had not received a specific complaint but is waiting for the reports from the teams following issues of swimmers falling sick.

“We keep a tag on the monitoring of the water quality. We are not satisfied that there was any problem with the water quality that affected anybody. In terms of the cosmetics, the appearances on, this is something that happens with pools from time to time. But the swimming events were very successful,” said Fennell.

On complaints that athletes were being denied entry to stadiums, Fennell said the problems with the accreditation cards were being sorted out.

“We received assurances that the athletes of the village who are not allowed to enter other sports will be allowed to see all sports that in other words athletes have their accreditation,” said Fennell.

About 6,700 athletes from 71 member states are taking part in the XIX Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, that will conclude on Thursday. (ANI)
