Key Delhi roads to be shut for CWG marathon

NEW DELHI - Major roads in the heart of the national capital would be shut from midnight to 10.30 a.m. Oct 14 for the Commonwealth Games marathon event, the Delhi Traffic Police said Monday.

The participants will have to cover the 10.5-km route four times to complete the race which has an official distance of 42.195 km, police said.

The route to be used for the race is Rajpath-Janpath-Rajendra Prasad Road-Red Cross Road-Parliament Street-Outer and Inner Circle (Connaught Place)-Minto Road and Deen Dayal Upadhayay Marg.

The race would start at 6.30 a.m. and would finish by 9:30 a.m. It would take some time to arrange the things after the race gets completed. The route would be opened to the public by 10.30 a.m., police said.

Spectators who would be visiting the race can park their vehicle at C-Hexagon near the India Gate. The other parking facility would be available at Mansingh Marg,” said a senior police official.

Over 6,500 athletes from 71 teams are participating in the ongoing Commonwealth Games here.
