NEW DELHI - TV screens will be set up at public places in Delhi to facilitate easy viewing for the upcoming marathon, Commonwealth Games Organising Committee chairman Suresh Kalmadi said Monday, a day after spectators complained of missing the cycling events due to heavy security.

People watched the events on their TV sets as tight security barred spectators from the road cycling races Sunday.

“People preferred to watch Sunday’s exciting cycling events on TV. So we now plan to get more spectators involved in the men’s and women’s marathon on Oct 14,” he said.

“We are installing video screens at public places for the marathon on Thursday,” Kalmadi added.

The comments came shortly after Games Federation chief Mike Fennel pointed out at the customary morning press conference Monday that the downside of Sunday’s “excellent” cycling race was the presence of “very few spectators”.
