Achanta, Subhajit duo win maiden CWG Gold medal in table tennis for India

NEW DELHI - Indian table tennis players Achanta Sharath Kamal and Subhajit Saha won first ever Gold medal in the Men’s double event at the Commonwealth Games here on Wednesday evening, as the duo defeated Singapore team in a closely contested final match.

Both the players looked quite jubilant, as they expressed their ecstasy before the home crowd after their hard earned win.

The match was nerve-wracking as the Singaporean team-Gao and Yang-showcased their mettle to the Indian team by putting up a tough challenge here today.

The Indian team won with 9-11, 12-10, 11-4, 5-11, 11-8 to bag the 33rd Gold Medal for the country, which leveled with the England for second position in the medal tally.

Australia was on top with 70 Gold, 46 Silver, and 45 Bronze medals with its total medal tally reaching 161 medals at the ongonig Games.

With its 33rd Gold in the Men’s double event of Table Tennis, India pulled itself back to second position in the medal tally at the ongoing C’wealth Games and pushed England to third position.

England had 32 Gold, 54 Silver, and 42 Bronze medals in its total medal tally of 128 medals on Wednesday evening.

While India’s medal tally read 33 Gold, 26 Silver, and 33 Bronze in its total medal tally of 92 medals. (ANI)
