Haryana CWG medal winners to get cars too!

CHANDIGARH - All medal winners of the 2010 New Delhi Commonwealth Games (CWG) hailing from Haryana will get Maruti cars as prize besides the cash rewards already announced by the state government.
The medal winners will be given Maruti-Suzuki cars which are manufactured in Haryana’s Gurgaon city.
Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda Saturday said that he took up the matter with the management of Maruti-Suzuki company in Japan, given the long association of Maruti Udyog Limited (MUL) with Haryana (since 1984), and they agreed to the proposal of giving Maruti cars to all medal winners.
The cars will be in addition to the cash reward of Rs.15 lakh, Rs.10 lakh and Rs.7 lakh already announced by the state government to all CWG gold, silver and bronze medal winners, respectively.
All 15 CWG gold medallists from Haryana and two other gold medal winning players, Saina Nehwal (badminton) and Sushil Kumar (wrestling), who have a close connection with Haryana, would also be given Maruti SX-4 cars.
Seven silver medallists would be given Maruti Dzire and eight bronze medallists from the state would be given WagonR cars.
The keys of the new cars would be handed over to the players by Hooda at a state level function being organised on Haryana Day (Nov 1) at Sonepat to honour the medal winners.
Coaches of medal winners will also get cash rewards of Rs.3 lakh, Rs.2 lakh and Rs.1 lakh for gold, silver and bronze medals won by their proteges.
As many as 52 players from Haryana had represented the country in the just-concluded Games in New Delhi.
