MELBOURNE - Australian selectors and skipper Ricky Ponting are likely to overlook off-spinner Nathan Hauritz for the first Ashes Test.

The Gabba, venue for the first Test against England, will have its traditional pace and bounce, and with Australian speedsters being the team’s strength, Hauritz is unlikely to get the nod.

Ponting will have Marcus North to fall back on for spin, while Michael Clarke and Simon Katich can also bowl some slow stuff.

Hauritz is likely to be carrying the drinks unless something goes awry with the pitch preparations at the Gabba.

Doug Bollinger, Ben Hilfenhaus and Mitchell Johnson are expected to lead Australia’s pace attack, wuth Peter George, Peter Siddle, Ryan Harris and Mitchell Starc in contention for the final slot in Australia’s final XI., FOX Sports reports. (ANI)
