CHANDIGARH - Shooter Gagan Narang, who won four gold medals in the Commonwealth Games (CWG), will also be honoured by the Haryana government along with other CWG medal winners from the state.
Narang, who hails from Hyderabad in Andhra Pradesh, has Haryana links.
Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said Friday that Narang told him that his grand-father and great grandfather lived in Samalkha town near Panipat, 110 km from New Delhi, for several decades before his family shifted to Hyderabad.
Narang will be honoured with other medal winners from Haryana, including those like Saina Nehwal, who have a Haryana connection.
The Haryana government had announced that players from Haryana winning gold, silver and bronze medals at the CWG would get cash rewards of Rs.1.5 million (Rs.15 lakh), Rs.1 million (Rs.10 lakh) and Rs.700,000, respectively.
Haryana players will also get Maruti-Suzuki cars from Maruti Udyog Limited (MUL) which has its factory in Gurgaon.
Hooda said that he was hoping that the CWG medal winners, including Narang, would repeat their performance in the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
