NEW DELHI - The Supreme Court on Friday allowed Hockey India to field Indian team in the Asian Games to be held in November at Guangzhou, China.
The apex court has also asked Indian Hockey Federation, Hockey India, and Indian Olympics Association to start a dialogue with ministry of sports considering the possibility of merging the two disputing federations into one body.
Continuing to apply the previous order of Supreme Court whereby Hockey India was allowed to field a national team in the women’s world cup and Commonwealth Games, the apex court bench of Justice RV Raveendran and Justice HL Gokhale decided to take up the matter for final disposal in December.
The court’s order is an interim relief till the final disposal of the case.
Hockey India and Indian Hockey Federation are involved in a tussle over recognition between the two federations.
Appearing for Hockey India senior counsel Mukul Rohatgi continued to maintain his firm stand that Hockey India is the only body recognized by the international hockey federation.
The Indian men’s hockey team, which won silver at the Commonwealth Games, will meet Hong Kong on November 15 in its opening match in the Guangzhou.
India will take on Bangladesh (November 17), Pakistan (November 20) and Japan (November 21) in its other Pool B matches. (ANI)
