Ferguson’s 100 million pounds kitty to raid January transfer market
By ANISunday, October 24, 2010
LONDON - Manchester United’s owners have reportedly pledged to give 100 million pounds to manager Sir Alex Ferguson to buy new players.
Ferguson has often repeated his desire to find “value” in the transfer market, but now he will have the funds to embark on a more ambitious transfer policy in January.
According to the Daily Express, the guarantee by American owners the Glazer family has also helped Ferguson to persuade striker Wayne Rooney to stay back at the club.
Rooney had questioned the club’s ambition when he announced his desire to leave United earlier this week.
However, in a dramatic change of events, Rooney ended doubts over his future by signing a new five-year contract.
He is now the highest-paid player at United, overtaking defender Rio Ferdinand.
The striker, who was previously on 90,000 pounds per week, is now understood to be earning a basic salary in excess of 150,000 pounds per week.
The 100 million pounds assurance comes despite the revelations that the debts of United’s parent company, the Red Football Joint Venture Ltd, had swollen from 699 million pounds to 716.5 million pounds. (ANI)
