Indian Premier League to decide fate of Kochi team today

NAGPUR - The Indian Premier League (IPL) Governing Council meets in Nagpur on Wednesday to decide the fate of the Kochi franchise issue.

After two other teams - Kings XI Punjab and Rajasthan Royals - were ousted earlier this month due to several violations of their contract with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the Kochi team could face the axe after failing to resolve the differences within the owners of the team.

It has been reported that despite very little chance for the Kochi team to survive, one Kochi faction has written a letter to the BCCI indicating a compromise in a last-ditch effort to save the team from being axed.

The franchise was given ten days till October 21 to reply to the BCCI’s show cause notice.

The deadline set by the BCCI has expired but the Kochi IPL consortium still wants some more time from the Cricket Board to resolve its internal differences.

Meanwhile, the two factions of the franchise incidentally filed separate replies, an indication that the consortium has not resolved its differences.

The franchise, which has roped in former India captain Sunil Gavaskar in an advisory capacity, however, said it is optimistic of getting the time from the BCCI. (ANI)
