NEW DELHI - Rajasthan defeated Hyderabad by an innings and 256 runs on the third and penultimate day of their Ranji Trophy Plate League in Jaipur Wednesday.

Resuming at 64 for six and trailing by 318 runs, Hyderabad collapsed for 126 in the morning at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium.

Hyderabad were dismissed for 21 in their first innings, the lowest total in the Ranji trophy. Rajasthan, led by Hrishikesh Kanitkar’s 193, scored 403 in their first innings.

Debutant seamer Deepak Chahar, who created a flutter with his eight-wicket haul in the first innings, finished with 12 wickets.

The win gave Rajasthan six points.

At New Delhi, Delhi were struggling at 328 for six despite a century by Virat Kohli and trailed Bengal’s first innings total by 145 runs at close on the third day of their Ranji Trophy Super League match at Ferozeshah Kotla.

At stumps, Rajat Bhatia was batting at 24 and Sumit Narwal 13. Ashok Dinda was the pick of Bengal bowlers, taking three wickets for 87.

Resuming at their overnight total of 89 for one, Delhi soon lost their way after the initial promise of the 118-run partnership of Shikar Dhawan (42) and Kohli (173). Though skipper Mithun Manhas put up some resistance during his 43-run innings, it is Kohli’s innings around which the Delhi batting revolved.

Kohli’s knock came in 267 balls and included 24 fours and a six. He was run out by Arindam Das.

At Chennai, a double strike late in the day by seamer Lakshmipathy Balaji left Assam precariously placed at 159 for four in the second innings, still trailing Tamil Nadu by three runs on the penultimate day of the Elite Group A match.

It left the experienced Sridharan Sriram (87 not out) with the task of salvaging the situation for Assam Thursday with not much of batting to follow.
